Facade photographs

September 23, 2026 photos by Doug Bright cover selected facade sections at 1633 and 1635 South Street and 2135 Walnut Street. Perspective alignment and wall heights are approximate. Unphotographed or obstructed sections keep illustrative materials. Small photo textures load only nearby. Select a photographed building on the map to view its facade and photo credits. Openly licensed online photographs add selected landmark surfaces; photographer, capture date, source and license appear with each entry. These are photo overlays, not complete photogrammetric reconstructions. Ten additional photographed fronts on Locust, Spruce, North 2nd and North 4th load nearby by default. Streets and terrain

Road edges follow city curb polygons. Buildings and street details follow a USGS elevation grid. Sidewalk widths are inferred from the curbs. Street-name labels follow recorded street centerlines and appear as you zoom closer. Park paths are visible in the photography.

A more recognizable skyline

144 matched groups use the city’s 2015 building models, including Liberty Place, Centre Square, and the Ritz-Carlton. Their stepped roofs and spires replace simple blocks nearby. Distant buildings use simpler outlines; recorded shapes and landmark detail load as you approach. Public story counts guide window spacing. Building use and age guide illustrative brick, stone-like masonry and glazed-tower families, with window frames, sills, varied blinds and storefront treatments. Shallow roof edges follow the low-rise footprints.

Live SEPTA vehicles

Bus, trolley, and Regional Rail positions are checked every five seconds against SEPTA’s public feeds while the map is visible. Vehicle reports may update more slowly; checks back off during outages or rate limiting. Icons identify the vehicle type, and arrows show the last reported heading. The transit layer includes the nearby rail corridor beyond the modeled district. Select a marker for its destination, next stop, delay, position age, and scheduled route. A highlighted path follows the route through the modeled district, and the vehicle panel shows its full extent. Exact trip matches identify the scheduled direction and branch; unmatched trips show a labeled overview of published patterns. Route geometry comes from a dated SEPTA schedule and may differ from live detours. Positions stay at the last reported location; they are not predicted between updates. Reports older than 90 seconds fade and disappear after five minutes. Placeholder trips are excluded. The verified feeds do not supply usable Broad Street or Market–Frankford subway locations. Rail markers show map positions; tunnels and track elevations are not reconstructed.

Maritime traffic

Enable Maritime traffic under Live transport for recent AIS vessel reports around Philadelphia. Select a ship marker or list row for its name, speed, course, heading and reported destination when supplied. AISStream supplies intermittent observations; positions are never predicted. Reports fade after three minutes and expire after ten. The overview includes vessels beyond the 3D district; mapped shoreline detail is limited to the modeled area. Some boats do not transmit AIS and coverage varies.

Live aircraft

Temporarily unavailable: the aircraft data providers are currently blocking access from this site. When access is restored, enable Live aircraft under Live transport to see ADSB.lol reports, with an adsb.fi fallback, within 15 nautical miles of central Philadelphia. Select a symbol or list row for callsign, aircraft type, reported altitude, speed, direction and position age. The overview includes flights outside the modeled district. Symbols mark overhead positions; altitude is not drawn to scale. Trails connect recent observations from this visit. Reports fade after 30 seconds and disappear after 90 seconds without a position update. Coverage varies and some aircraft are absent. The active provider and its data terms appear below the overview. Trails reset when the provider changes.

Indego stations

Station locations, bike inventories, open docks, and electric-bike counts come from Indego’s public feeds and refresh every minute. Markers and station details also count available electric bikes above your chosen battery-charge threshold. Set it from 0% to 100% in the Indego panel; it defaults to 50% and is saved on this device. Unavailable bikes and bikes exactly at the threshold are excluded; missing or stale charge data shows a dash. The 3D stations contain the reported number of docks and bikes, including unavailable bikes shown in gray. Where provided, bike occupancy follows numbered docks. Station dock placement, orientation and spacing are illustrative; modeled rows may shift slightly to avoid approximate buildings. Inventory older than five minutes is marked unavailable; stations remain on the map. A backup feed can supply counts without individual dock occupancy.

City atlas layers

Switch public art, the bike network, historic-register properties, stormwater footprints, playgrounds, hydration stations and libraries, historic streets, traffic-calming devices, 2024 building energy, and SEPTA transit stops on or off. Select pins or search all records in enabled layers. These are dated city inventory snapshots, not live observations. Historic and stormwater outlines are horizontal map overlays visible through buildings. Bike lines follow street geometry and distinguish shared lanes from dedicated facilities. Energy report locations use colored circles and nearby numeric labels. Values are self-reported for the stated year; intensity colors are numerical ranges, not ratings, and missing values remain unknown. Routes and area layers are directly selectable; a compact Map key explains active styles. The Transit stops layer distinguishes bus stops, metro boarding points and station entrances, with published routes and directions from a dated SEPTA feed. It does not provide live arrivals or elevator status. The searchable Data catalog lists further sources and a ranked expansion plan.

Incidents & requests

Layers → Incidents & requests contains 311 requests, crime reports, L&I complaints, shooting victims, police stops, 911 call areas, PPD fatal crashes, PennDOT traffic crashes, and complaints against police. Sources load on demand and responses can be cached for five minutes. Wider views summarize located point records in fixed 250 m cells; closer views show records and clusters. Counts follow each layer’s filters and retain its units. Multiple datasets occupy separate bands, without adding their counts together. These are published records, not live dispatches. Date coverage and source links accompany each layer. Crime locations are generalized to the hundred block. Shooting records count victims. Police complaints are summarized by whole district; 911 reporting periods are not supplied. Area outlines are clipped to the map envelope, but counts still cover each entire source area. L&I complaints also appear in building records.

City lights at night

Recorded City light-pole locations guide lamp glow and nearby street illumination. Warm and cool window patterns help buildings and skyscrapers read after dark. Lamp output, light color and lit windows are illustrative, not live operating or occupancy data. Photographed facades retain their original appearance and baked-in shadows.

Still approximate

Most buildings retain approximate heights and flat roof shapes. Facade colors, materials, doors, storefronts, window lights, roof trim, tree crowns, branches and furniture styles are illustrative. Tree genera guide broad crown shapes; size estimates come from trunk-diameter records. These details are not field surveys or live occupancy indicators. Bridge decks and interiors are not reconstructed. The source datasets describe different years.

Rotate & tilt on desktop

Right-drag or Shift + drag: sideways rotates the map; up/down tilts it. On a trackpad, hold Shift and click-drag.

Phone & tablet

One finger moves the map. Pinch to zoom, twist two fingers to rotate the map with your fingers, or slide two fingers up/down together to tilt. Tap a building or marker for details.

Keyboard

Arrows or WASD move. Shift + arrows turn and tilt. + / − zoom, N faces north, U looks down, Home resets the view, and Esc stops movement and closes the open panel. Shortcuts pause while typing or using a dialog.

Street level

Drag the person onto a blue street, or tap the person and then a street. The camera flies to eye level in this 3D model. Drag to look; use WASD / arrows or the on-screen arrows to walk. Shift walks faster; N faces north. Back to map or Esc flies back. With a keyboard, activate the person, use arrow keys to place the marker, then press Enter. Reduced-motion settings skip the flight.
